My Bettys

In year two, we were asked to select a potter and copy a work. I chose Betty Woodman and "My Bettys" aimed to look like something she'd made. Betty died last week and I have to thank her for providing the inspiration for much of my work - tall forms with useless handles and a love of glaze.

  1. Isn't it interesting how a very detailed look at art you are drawn to can so influence ones work? I copied the colours of an Emil Nolde painting once and still love the result. http://artsmitten.com/exhibition/1871_tognetti_500.jpg

  2. Yes, it is although I have had trouble taking ownership of the pieces when they've been copied! However, mine weren't a direct copy (very badly made for starters), more in the likeness of and it was Jim Cooper who said, just throw the glaze on, don't even think about it which was liberating! I've always loved your painting and had no idea of its inspiration.....
